There are all sorts of unique headboards that can be purchased, but some of the most unique headboards I’ve seen, have been custom made either by homeowners themselves, or by a furniture specialist.  If you’re the artsy type, then feel free to get as crafty as you like!  Vintage wooden doors, fireplace mantels, mirrors or old window shutters are some of the many materials that can be used to create a touch of personal style into your bedroom –these items can definitely help make unique headboards.

Unique headboards can be made with materials such as, leather, metal, wood and more.  When using metals for a headboard, they’re most often made with wrought iron, pewter, cast steel or heavy gauge tubing.  Always consider how much space is available, as unique headboards will vary in size.  Typically, they’re built to fit the standard size beds (twin, full, queen, king, cal king), but the height will vary anywhere from 48” to 68”.

With a huge selection of unique headboards available, always take your time shopping around.  This is a reflection on your style, so determine what look you’re going for.  Do you want rounded corners?  Maybe a headboard with a back curve or domed style works for you?  Many modern homeowners like square corners or buttons on a leather headboard.  Choosing unique headboards for your home can be a lot of fun!

There’s a huge range in pricing for all sorts of unique headboards.  Leather headboards tend to be a bit pricier than wood or metal.  A beautiful leather headboard can be purchased starting at $200+, although faux headboards even less.  A high-end leather headboard will cost $800+, while some of the wooden and metal unique headboards can be purchased online starting around $75.

As I mentioned, there are so many unique headboards available so make sure to take your time and find something that suits your style!  Once it’s in place, you’ll really enjoy the new look created in your bedroom, simply by adding a unique headboard!

Even if you’re not the most artistic, creating kids headboards isn’t too tough.  This is a fun way to get your children excited about their room, so feel free to get as creative as you, or more importantly, as creative as your children like.  You’ll only need a few tools and by following these simple steps, you’ll have some exciting kids headboards in their rooms in no time.

The first step in creating kids headboards is finding the right fabric to match the rest of your child’s bedroom.  You may already have a theme for the child’s room, in which case you can consider using fabric that matches that theme (cartoon character, sports, etc).  If this isn’t the case, then find a color that simply matches the room.  Before moving forward, make sure the fabric is smooth and wrinkle free.

Next step consists of covering the wood of the bed board with batting.  Cut the batting to fit over the wood of the bed board and paste it onto the board.  The batting may not fit over the entire board, so cut it into pieces and cover the wood.  Always make sure to wrap it around the edges as well, so the kids headboards stay in tact.

As this point, the fabric needs to be placed over the wood.  Make sure you stretch it out and it’s tight against the wood.  The fabric of the kids headboards should always be evenly places over the entire bed board and the corners should tuck in behind it.  Make sure it’s got a clean and smooth look as this is a huge part of your kids headboards.

Now it’s time to secure the fabric in place so that your design stays in place on your kids headboards.  You’ll need a stapler that can staple the fabric into the back of the head board.  After stapling the first side of the fabric, have someone help you keep the fabric tight, so you can staple the other sides in place.  Do all four sides and always make sure the fabric is smooth on the kids headboards.

You’ll need mounting brackets, which will need to screw into all four corners of the back of the wood.  You’ll also need a measuring tape at this point to measure how far each bracket is.  Above the bed, you’ll need to make the same measurements by beginning at the point you’ll want to position the bottom of the headboard.  Jot down the spot on the wall with a pencil, where you’ll position the screws.

The kids headboards are almost done!  Take the anchors and secure them into the wall with a drill.  They should go right into the spots you previously marked and also drill the screws into them.  The kids headboards should simply hang onto the wall by positioning the brackets directly onto the screws.

Although it’s quite simple, you’re best off making these kids headboards with another person to help out.  It’s inexpensive and can be quite fun.  I know you’re kids will enjoy their new kids headboards!

There are many different options to consider when purchasing a leather headboard.  You’ll often see leather footboards or leather rails attached to the bed as well.  This usually comes when you’re purchasing an entire bed.  I’ve also seen options of wood finished accents to complete a headboard.  Other options to consider are brass, finished wood components, painted metals and plated brass.

It can get a bit tricky when you’re ready to match your leather headboard with the rest of the room.  The headboard will probably stand out in your bedroom as the center of attention.  In my opinion, it’s always best to keep the rest of the room fairly simple and let the leather headboard stand out.  You want to keep a nice balance between the board and the rest of the furniture in the room.

Once you’ve made up your mind and you know you want a leather headboard, there are some rules you must follow.  The first rule is you must measure your bedroom or note your bedroom measurements.  Don’t take any guesses at this; you don’t want to end up with a headboard that is completely inappropriate compared to the rest of the bedroom.  There’s nothing more exciting than getting the delivery of your furniture, but it wouldn’t be too exciting to realize it doesn’t fit!  Depending on where you’re ordering from, it can take weeks or several months for your order to arrive.

After measuring the size of the room, you’ll then need to measure the mid-way point of the wall you’re planning on placing your new leather headboard against.  You want to be sure that the headboard will not extend further than half the wall in the room.  When it extends past the half way point of any wall it will become a bit overwhelming, especially since it’s leather!

Now the fun stuff comes – selecting the details!  Usually choosing a color is the first step in the process.  Black is the easiest to match with considering it can go with any color.  If you choose black, it’s still acceptable to have another leather piece in the room.  However, if you go with a brown leather headboard, do not match this with any existing leather in the room.  It will appear on the tacky side.  I’ve seen red, white, purple and grey against black leather headboards and those are some of the colors that definitely go really well.

Next step after choosing your color is the shape of the leather headboard.  Depending on the shapes you already have in your room, this can help determine the best look for your leather headboard.  If you already have rounded shapes and softer edges, it’s probably best to continue this theme with your headboard.

Once you’ve determined the type of leather headboard you’re looking for, now comes the fun part.  There are many options online and in stores, so be sure to look around for the style that best fits your needs!

The first black headboard I recently came across was at Target.  The Edwardian Headboard is a classic black headboard made with a polyester cover and filled with Dacron foam.  The foam is extremely comfortable, so if you’re leaning back against the board it will be just right!  It’s a pewter-tone, English-style with tufted buttons so it will add a sophisticated and classic look to your bedroom.  This black headboard was hand-upholstered and hand-sewn.  The height can be adjusted but the measurements are74×4x51” although they do have a few other sizes.  This size will fit a standard bed frame.  This black headboard will only cost you $329.99.  If there’s no Target store near by, it can be purchased at Target.com.

The next option can be found at JC Penney.  This is one of the most chic black headboards I’ve seen for this price.  The Nash queen headboard can be purchased for $379.00, although it was originally priced at $759.00.  The black headboard is covered with bonded-leather and also made with a blend of polyester/cotton and polyurethane.  It has a graceful arch that really gives it a great look.  The headboard is filled with a polyester foam padding that keeps it comfortable when leaning back or using it as a headrest.  Since it’s made with bonded leather, it can withstand any spills and even protected against sunlight.  This is extremely durable.  This can be found in stores or at JCPenney.com.

Now that we’ve covered some extremely affordable options, this next option is on the higher end of the spectrum.  This black headboard can be found at Horchow.com.  They’re known to have an extremely elegant look and their Paisley headboard is exactly that!  It’s made with a wooden frame finished with carved floral and twisted accents.  This headboard looks like the Queen should be sleeping in it.  It’s a bit more traditional than the others and also in a different price range.  This frame can be purchased for $1,359.00.

If you’re really looking to save some money, here’s one of the best contemporary headboards available.  I found this one searching the web at thefurniture.com.  This contemporary headboard is made by the Pablo Collection from MFI.  This design truly has a unique and distinguished look, typical style of the Pablo Collection.  It’s a sleek and clean look and will add a nice touch to any bedroom.  It’s made from top quality metals with silver finish metal decorative plates.  This bed also comes with sylish curverd pulls to the drawer fronts.  It also has heavy-duty shock resistance corners and side protection.  For this price, you won’t find anything better.  This is one of the best deals I’ve seen when it comes to contemporary headboards.

There are many options to choose from when shopping for contemporary headboards.  These are just a few I’ve recently come across, but I always suggest shopping online and in stores before making a purchase.  Any furniture is an investment and the better the quality, the longer it will last you.  There are many options that are high-end, but if you’re on a tight budget, these are two great choices.  Good luck with your search for your new contemporary headboard!

Over the past century, sleigh beds were mostly concentrated east of the Mississippi River.  Over the last 10 years, sleigh beds have spread throughout the United States thanks to TV, magazines and the internet.  Sleigh beds are usually made with steel, aluminum, iron and wood.  Leather sleigh beds have started to become more popular as they provide an extremely chic, but elegant look in any bedroom.  It’s common to see the leather sleigh beds combined with wood or other materials, but consumers are also opting for sleigh beds completely covered in leather.

One of my all-time favorite leather sleigh beds can be found at Horchow.com.  It’s a bit on the pricey side (although there are many options way more expensive), but this bed will last for many years to come.  The “Alexander” is extremely luxurious made from birch solids with cherry and exotic avodire.  It’s extremely well-crafted with detail throughout the bed.  This leather sleigh bed has leather on the interior of the headboard and the interior of the footboard.  It doesn’t get much cozier and elegant than this plush bed.  This queen size bed can be purchased for $3,099.00.

Unfortunately leather sleigh beds are usually a bit pricey.  However, if you’re looking for a more affordable option, you can always opt for a faux leather sleigh bed.  Overstock.com has several options in this category and their faux leather sleigh beds are priced really well.  One specific bed that caught my attention was the Brooklyn Bi-cast faux leather queen sleigh bed.  This bed can work well for a couple and it’s not too bad for a bachelor pad!  It’s extremely contemporary and will give your room a real fresh update.  The bed is upholstered with bi-cast faux leather and the bed is made with a solid rubber wood.  The headboard looks great against the wall and stands 47 inches high while the footboard measures 25 inches high.  The reviews on overstock.com have been great!  This bed can be purchased there for $499.99 – not a bad deal!

There’s now a large supply of leather sleigh beds available on the market.  If you’re looking for a leather sleigh bed, be sure to shop around.  There are plenty of different options online and in stores.  A quality leather sleigh bed can last you many years, so make sure you really take your time.  Good luck with your search and be ready to make a lovely difference in your bedroom!

I try to keep my bedroom furniture in great shape and always functional.  It doesn’t all always match though, but it works!  Buying an entire bedroom set can get a bit too pricey these days but with the right ideas, it’s not too hard to design a bedroom with your own personal touch.  Keeping the design of your bedroom sophisticated and unified can take some effort, but with a few affordable touch-ups it can easily be done.

Creative headboards are a great option that can add a nice touch to your room.  It sounds like it’s a huge purchase, but it doesn’t have to be!  Usually a nice creative headboard will be the center of attention in the bedroom and make an impact on the room.  Some people change their headboard quite often, but this will depend on what type of headboard you use and how crafty you are!

Now let’s discuss some of the crafty options out there in making creative headboards.  One of the oldest tricks in the book is converting an old door into a headboard.  You’ll obviously need to be a bit handy for this, but I’ve seen it done and looking great.  There are different places to find a solid wood door (try a recycling center) in your town.  The door will probably need a good sanding and a few new coats of paint.  Once you’ve painted the door and it’s looking as good as new (or a vintage look if that’s what you’re going for) you’ll need to get the brackets ready.  Make sure you have brackets that you can mount the door/bed board on the wall.  Now you have a creative bed board and a new look in your bedroom!

The next option maybe a bit harder to come by, but it’s a great way to make creative headboards as well.  Try using an old bookshelf!  I’ve seen old bookshelves turned into headboards and appear extremely sophisticated.  Mount the bookshelf to the wall with the shelves facing the bed.  This will allow you to decorate the shelves with whatever you desire.  Candles, picture frames and lamps are a few ideas to decorate the shelves with.

Those are a few of the more affordable options for the creative people out there.  Then there are high-end options out there for creative headboards.  Of course they’ll require a lot more money, but if that’s no problem I’d go for a beautiful Italian leather headboard.  There are many companies that will help you in creating your headboard and there are many options out there to choose from.
